Portugal is currently trapped in fire which has spread in many areas of the country. The Government has decided to close roads in the regions of Porto, Aveiro, and Viseu due to the fire. This is why two major motorways and around 6 national roads have been closed in the vicinity.
Fire In Portugal Leads To Closure Of Roads
The National Republican Guard (GNR) of Portugal has given their say on this whole scenario. This assessment was made around 09:00 when they estimated that it is better to close some roads to prevent some major damage. This is why one motorway is closed in Porto which is motorway 43 (A43) which is located between the Gondomar and the A41. Another motorway is also closed in Gondomar, which is the A41. This motorway is located between the Medas and the Aguiar de Sousa.

GNR has reported that two national roads in the Averiro region are completely closed. These include the EN16 located between Cacia and the Sever do Vouga and the EN33 located between Talhadas and Águeda. There are some roads closed in the Viseu region as well. These are EN228 which is located between Figueira Alva and Fermentel.
The second road closed is the EN231 between Vila Viçosa and Mourelos (Cinfães) and another one is located on the N222 between Oliveira do Douro and Freigil. Another highway which is EN225 is also closed between Cabril and Pinheiros. So, in total, these six national roads are closed in Portugal due to the fire in the country. The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luis Montenegro stated:
We are well aware that these difficult hours are not over yet. We have to continue to give everything we have and ask for help from our partners and friends so that we can reinforce the protection of our people and property.
Some roads were also opened in the morning for the citizens to travel in the Vila Pouca de Aguiar area, located in the Vila Real district, Coimbra. The government also opened some roads in the districts of Braga and Bragança. These roads have been closed since Tuesday because of the intensity of the fires in the region.
Several Causality Due To The Fire
The fire in Portugal has been lit for many days and this has created havoc in the country. These fires have engulfed some parts of Portugal since Sunday. The most affected regions are the European country’s northern and central regions. It has engulfed the districts of Aveiro, Porto, Coimbra, Vila Real, and Viseu. Seven people have died from these fires and 40 are injured due to it. Two people are in serious condition. This fire has also destroyed several houses as well. The government has decided to close some roads and motorways such as A1, A25, and A13.
Portugal is currently suffering from the aftereffects of the fire. The total area which has been burned in the country is more than 62 thousand hectares. This data has been verified by the European Copernicus system. This shows that around 47,376 hectares have already been burned in the northern and central areas of the region. The government of Portugal has already declared a state of emergency for the country because of the fire. All the municipalities have been alerted and are instructed to be cautious.
