Risks During the Holiday Season
The PSP warns that the Christmas and New Year’s Eve periods lead to a large movement of people, especially in major urban centers, where crowds are concentrated in commercial and tourist areas, as well as at public transport hubs.
Despite increased police presence and visibility in areas with large crowds, conditions are still expected for certain types of crime, particularly property crimes such as robberies and thefts.
Public Safety Tips
The PSP has advised the public to follow these precautions:
- Always keep bags and backpacks closed and close to the body.
- Keep valuables in inner pockets.
- Avoid placing items like phones or wallets in back or visible pockets.
- Refrain from carrying large amounts of cash or valuables.
The PSP recommends carrying backpacks on the front rather than the back, particularly when using public transport or in crowded areas. Additionally, they suggest securing bags and backpacks with a small padlock or simple clip for added security.
