Police Command Officer Given 180 Days To Remove All His Tattoos In Braga

The National Republican Guard (GNR) in Portugal has given 180 days to one of their command officers to remove his tattoo. The GNR sets this deadline for their police officer in Braga. However, if the officer fails to comply with this order, he will be expelled from the unit.

GNR Gives 180 Days To Officer

GNR is very strict on the orders that are given to the police officers. One such order is given to their command officer to remove tattoos on his arm within the next 180 days. The General Command has clearly stated that the officer is allowed to use elastic sleeves until he removes his tattoo. These sleeves should be used to hide his tattoos which are not acceptable in this unit. The order is communicated to the officer.

If the officer fails to comply with this order by the GNR, he will be punished under a new offense. The result of this offense can even lead to dismissal from the service as well. This will be decided by the disciplinary committee that will decide the outcome according to the offense. The GNR has also given their statement regarding this matter. They stated:

If the officer does not remove them within the period stipulated for this purpose, he will commit a new offense. In this case, in addition to the initiation of a new disciplinary process, the suitability of opening a service dismissal process, provided for in the statute for Guard officers, may also be assessed.

The Commander-general can decide about dismissing any officer if their behavior does not reflect the unit’s standards. Any kind of negligence will not be tolerated by the organization. All officers of the GNR should be liable for their ethical, moral, military, and technical behaviors in this institution.

GNR Officer Can Be Terminated For Non-Compliance

It is stated in the terms of the law that any officer can be dismissed from the service based on their performance in the unit. This will lead to the loss of rights for any member of the GNR who is given the sentence of termination. Only their retirement pension will be provided, which is also stated by the law.

A GNR officer is currently in the spotlight because of his tattoos that are visible on his forearms. He is currently suspended for 30 days because of tattoos on both his arms. The suspension came into immediate effect on 27 August 2024. This suspension was signed by the Commander of the Braga Territorial Command.
