The new President of the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG), Nuno Pedro aims to invest in the golf sector. He has revealed his plans to make golf a priority in the budget for the year 2025. High-class facilities will be provided for the golf courses to promote sports.
New President For Portuguese Gold Federation
Nuno Pedro has announced his plans to invest in coach training, infrastructure, and school sports. There is no doubt that the budget 2025 will hold a significant share of the golf sector. The elections conducted on 7 November saw Pedro Nunes win by 46 votes. He is leading the project ‘Juntos Somos Mais Golfe’. He thanked all his supporters who voted for him, and this will be reflected in the budget for the year 2025 where golf will be focused.

The new President is already planning to formulate his next steps towards improving the sports. A meeting has been called for that purpose which will include the current management of the federation. This meeting has been scheduled for 26 November when the new corporate bodies will be inaugurated. Nuno Pedro stated:
Taking into consideration the 2024 budget, the immediate priority is to evaluate and prepare the budget for next year. Then, we will start to implement the projects we have in mind and evaluate and amplify those that are already in place.
Improved Facilities To Be Provided For Golf
The former President of the Lisbon Sports Club, Nunes Pedro has laid down his views on the investment announced for the gold club. Lisbon Sports Club is also one of the four founding clubs of the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG). The federation was made 75 years ago when a joint effort from Lisbon Sports Club, Oporto Golf Club, Club Golf Miramar, and the Clube de Golf do Estoril was made.
An investment in the new facilities is in plans during the tenure of Nunes Pedro. The federation aims to invest in the training of qualified professionals along with creating new infrastructure for the golf club such as a brand-new driving range and a 9-hole course. These developments will be made in those areas which lack golf facilities. It will also be introduced in school as a professional sport. Nunes Pedro stated:
I think we can make a difference given what was happening, without wanting to criticize the current management. I want the same result as Miguel for golf, more players, greater competitiveness, better and more conditions, but following a different path. Training base coaches, having more infrastructure, and school sports are the foundations. The potential players are in schools.
Promotion Of Golf As A Sports
Pedro Nunes Pedro informs that in the last 15 years, there has been no new golf infrastructure since the Jamor course. The new president believes that golf facilities should be available in schools as well. Training coaches and school sports are essential for the development of the golf sector. Pedro believes in providing a competitive environment for the athletes in golf. He further stated:
I am not talking about internal competition. Our best players often have to compete with the European elite. We want to create a ‘Team Portugal’ to give this experience to amateurs and support professionals in the first two to three years of their careers.
This is the best way to check the capabilities of Portuguese golfers and compare them with the best European golfers. Nuno Pedro does not expect high results in the next few years, but the improved facilities will aid the Portuguese golfers in improving their skills. The new president is looking forward to hosting the Portuguese Open which will be eligible for the Challenge Tour. This competition will be held in 2025 at the Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort.
The main aim is to bring these tournaments to an international level. For now, the project is planned for spring 2025. Apart from that, two events are already in the running process: the second division of the European Golf and Ladies Access Series. The new President further stated:
I will keep an eye out, but it won’t be the main concern. It will be tough, but the idea is to reap rewards in the medium term.
