Amadeu Guerra has been appointed as the new Attorney General in Portugal. He believes that he is ready to take this responsibility. He is chosen by the AD Government and appointed by the President himself.
New Attorney General Appointed
The new appointment of Attorney General Amadeu will now take his role responsibly. He is a person who shows no leniency. It is reported that once he investigated a colleague who was involved in Operation Fizz which is for bribery. It is reported by Expresso that he is a hindrance in the investigation. They stated:

Amadeu is now chosen to lead the Public Prosecutor’s office until the year 2030. The 69-year-old man will continue the role of Attorney General after much tension. There has been a bad tenure for the previous Attorney General and Amadeu is looking to correct it. The official announcement for the appointment of the Attorney General was announced yesterday. This announcement was made on the website of the Presidency of the Republic. It stated:
Following the proposal of the Government, the President of the Republic has appointed, under constitutional terms, Amadeu Francisco Ribeiro Guerra as Attorney General of the Republic
Ceremony For New Attorney General In October
The current Attorney General, Lucília Gago is stepping down from his post on 11th October. The ceremony for the new Attorney General will take place on 12th October. This ceremony will take place at Palácio de Belém at 12:30 pm.
Amadeu was forced by Operation Marquês to leave the limelight in the summer of the year 2020. This was due to his serious health issue. At that time, Amadeu had already left the leadership of DCIAP (department of the Public Prosecutor’s Office). He was appointed as the district attorney general of Lisbon. Amadeu looked over the investigations of most of the complex cases in DCIAP.
It is believed that Amadeu was chosen by the prime minister himself. This decision was taken after much consideration. There was pressure from some other influential groups to nominate their person as the new attorney general. The Prime Minister decided to appoint Amadeu as the new attorney general after he gave up on another name. It is stated:
[Prime Minister] gave up at the last minute on another name that had been suggested to him by an influential PSD group in the north of the country.
Amadeu Appointed As Oldest Attorney General
Amadeu Guerra will be the oldest person to be nominated as the Attorney General. He was born on January 9, 1955. He was selected by many people through consensus. His works during his forty years of service had impressed many people. According to the constitution of Portugal, the Attorney General has the highest power in the office of public prosecutor. The public prosecutor’s office has an attorney general who is leading the Superior Council. This council includes several members who are elected by the members of the Parliament.
Prime Minister has not consulted the opposition parties, but he alone has decided to appoint Amadeu as the new attorney general. Amadeu is the new man who will put the public prosecutor’s office in order. The Justice Minister believes that:
[The New Attorney General will] put the public prosecutor’s house in order.
