Lisbon Airport is ranked 8th among all the European Union countries for most flight passengers. Overall, the number of passengers who travel through flights has increased compared to the previous year.
Lisbon Airport Ranks At 8th Place
In the year 2023, there were 973 million people who opted for flight as their means of transportation. This marks an increase of 19.3% compared with the number of passengers in the year 2022. According to the data from Eurostat, every EU country has observed an increase in number of passengers. The statement from Eurostat can be read as follows:
The data shows that in 2023, all EU countries recorded an increase in the number of passengers transported by air compared to 2022.

The greatest growth in the number of passengers transported by air in the last few years is achieved by Estonia with a 7.9% increase. This is followed by Greece with a 9.6% increase and then Lithuania with a 12.3% increase. Lisbon is ranked 8th place in this list for most passengers among the European Union countries. According to statistics of Eurostat, the countries which had the greatest growth in number of passengers are as follows:

- Slovenia: + 30.9 %
- Czechia (Czech Republic): + 29.4 %
- Hungary: + 26.3 %
- Poland: + 20.3 %
- Netherlands: + 19.9 %

Airports In European Union Records Increase
Eurostat has also recorded the number of passengers in the airports as well. Every airport within the European Union country has marked an increase in traffic. The ranking of the airport has no major changes because every airport witnessed an increase in passenger traffic. Paris Airport (Charles de Gaulle) has become the highest number of passengers in EU countries. It has witnessed an increase of 17.3% with a total of 67.4 million people who boarded the flight. In second place, is Amsterdam Airport (Schipol) with a growth of 17.9% and a total of 61.9 million passengers.
Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado) is ranked 8th place which has a total of 33.636 million passengers. It has witnessed an increase of 12.3% compared to the year 2022. The Porto Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro) appeared in the list generated by Eurostat. A total of 151,183 million passengers used the airport in 2023.
