Many brave Portuguese volunteered to battle with the fire in forests. Some of these volunteers have even lost their lives. That is why the proceedings of this hot air balloon for this year will be donated to these volunteers for firefighters. This event is dedicated to all those volunteer firefighters who wanted to travel in a hot air balloon but lost their lives for Portugal. One of the lead organizers, Maria Inês Soares has stated:
Our social and environmental concern is once again present at FIBAQ, therefore the flights to be carried out will be associated with solidarity campaigns that fully benefit the Volunteer Firefighters of the participating municipalities.
Festival Includes Night Glow Show
The organization for this year has decided to introduce a Night Glow which is a nighttime show. This show will be free of charge for all the people who attend the event. It is a show which demonstrates great skills from the participants. The Night Glow show is often considered the climax of the International Hot Air Balloon Festival.
All the pilots of the hot air balloon combine and make their hot balloons ready for takeoff. Right before takeoff, the flames are released from the burners of the hot air balloon which creates a unique view from the viewer’s perspective. It also demonstrates a combination of light, color, and music. This show will be scheduled for 9 November at 7:45 pm. It will be hosted at Ponte de Sor and entry is free of cost.
Publibalão is solely responsible for the organization of this festival. It is co-organized by the Alentejo, Clube de Balonismo which was founded in November 2012. This school teaches how to fly a hot air balloon. Kids who are interested in learning about flying the hot air balloon can join this school.
