Environmental Organizations Work Together To Make Network Of Miniforests In Portugal

Environmental Organizations across Portugal have planned to create a network of mini forests in the country. They have already begun with the Portugal Miniforest Network which intends to reduce the effect of cities on climate change.

Organizations Plan To Create Miniforests

Some environmental organizations have already created 30 miniforests across different parts of the country. They are aiming to increase this network to other regions of Portugal. The basic aim of these miniforest networks is to reduce the pollution and other climatic effects that are caused on the environment. Nowadays, cities are causing much harm to the environment which affects the climate as well.

Plan For Planting Only Miyawaki Plants

The organizers of the Portuguese Miniforest Network spoke about the sustainable plan for the country. They informed that the plan for this new network comprises 6 organizations that specifically aim at the environmental effects of the region. This can be achieved by planting Miyawaki miniforest with only the native species in the area. The statement reads as follows:

Miniforests, based on the Japanese Miyawaki method, are dense native forests that develop quickly and provide benefits such as improving air quality, carbon capture, reducing urban heat, water regulation, and creating natural habitats for fauna and flora local areas.

Help From Educational Institutions And Local Government

It is direly requested by the environmental organizations that this plan cannot be implemented without the help of the locals. It would be much appreciated if the local government of the region and the educational institutions would take part in making this miniforest network successful.

However, if this network is successful, the country will benefit from the improved quality of life. Green spaces in the cities will help to keep the air clean in the atmosphere. The only request from the network’s organization is active participation from the local bodies. Help from any local community is highly appreciated to make this project successful. It may even create an everlasting environmental impact on the country.

This network of creating miniforests in Portugal was created by several big environmental organizations. These 6 renowned organizations have joined forces together to make Portugal more sustainable. The network aims to convert urban spaces into a self-sustainable ecosystem. It can only be successful if the local bodies participate actively in this network. These 6 environmental organizations are as follows:

  • Impact Florestal
  • URBEM
  • Biggest Miniforest
  • Floresta Nativa/Mativawaky
  • 2adapt
  • Ilhas de Biodiversidade

Miniforest Network Already Has Great Impact

This network of 6 big environmental organizations has already impacted Portugal in a good way. The founder of the Floresta Nativa/ Nativawak, Sónia Soares believes that the network has been successful in different areas of the country. However, it aims to achieve much more than it already has. She further believes that the network should continue to work together to make this project a success at a national level. She stated:

I believe that this is the way to guarantee the healthy future of our children, especially because there is only one planet Earth.

Network Aims To Bring Initiative To Other Countries

The partnership between the 6 environmental organizations has caused a positive change in Portugal. They aim to provide visibility to the miniforests which are already planted. The ultimate aim of this network is to bring this initiative to other countries after its initial success in Portugal. The joint effort by all the organizations is truly commending.

Miniforest Network aims to spread this knowledge to other organizations which will have a positive impact. They want to set a good example in Portugal that meets the criteria of environmental sustainability goal. The only demand from the network is a call for action from schools, local government, companies in the area, and the people of Portugal. Any kind of contribution from the citizens of Portugal will bring a positive change towards environmental sustainability in Portugal. The founder of Ilhas da Biodiversidade, Vítor Gordo also believes in working together as he stated:

By acting together, we are strengthening the entire network and creating opportunities to restore nature. This cooperation makes a lot of sense to obtain a broader vision.
