The flights will be operated from one capital (Reykjavík, Iceland) to another capital (Lisbon, Portugal). The airline company has decided to operate 2 flights per week into the Portuguese capital. Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Icelandair, Tomas Ingason is very delighted to start this new venture with Portugal. He believes that 2 flights per week mark a new beginning towards a long journey of cooperation. He stated:

We have seen very positive numbers at the beginning of operations. We had a full flight on the way to Lisbon, which was the inaugural flight, and it went very well.

Tomas believes that the first inaugural flight was a success. This success will follow with more bookings towards the Portuguese capital. This route has started in the winter season, which will attract more customers for the winter holidays. The number of flights per week is limited for now. If more people start to book flights to Portugal, the number of flights in the week will increase. Flights from Iceland to Portugal can be booked on every Monday and Friday. The airline has planned for an increase in flights in the holiday season.

Icelandair has announced that they will start their operation of flights to Portugal with 2 aircraft. This number will increase to maintain their planes for better working conditions. The flights from Reykjavík to Lisbon will take place on the B737-800 MAX plane. This plane holds a capacity of 166 passengers. These seats also account for 16 SAGA premium seats which is the superior cabin of Icelandic airlines.

Icelandair Will Increase Flights In Future

Tomas Ingason has announced that he is starting the operation for leisure procedure at first. This traffic will increase in future due to corporate people visiting from one country to another. The airline targets to cover several routes of the Portuguese airline in America South Africa and Europe, as well as Icelandair in North America. Tomas stated:

At the beginning of operations, we have seen that the Icelandic public is showing a lot of interest in Lisbon.

He explained that 5% of these bookings to the Lisbon flights have some kind of connection to North America. He also stated:

It is a market that is starting strong, mostly with a leisure focus, but with the codeshare with TAP we also hope to have business traffic to South America, and Africa because it is the most convenient way to connect both destinations. Therefore, we believe that traffic will be a mix of both.
