Huge Crowd Attended The Funeral Of Firefighters Who Lost Their Lives In Tábua

A huge crowd came to the funeral of the firefighters who lost their lives in the fire at Tábua. Portugal is still battling their fight against the giant fire which has caused havoc in the country. Two women and one man lost their lives during their duties to the country.

Portuguese Honor The Firefighters Who Lost Their Lives

All the fire stations around the country sound sirens in the memory of those who lost their lives. This siren was sounded at 4 pm to mark the funeral of all the three firefighters who lost their lives. Portugal is still struggling with the fire where two women and one man lost their lives. Many people came to attend the funeral of these heroes who sacrificed their lives to save many others. They will always be remembered by the people of Portuguese as the heroes who saved many lives.

The three firefighters who lost their lives were Susana Carvalho (aged 44 years), Paulo Santos (aged 38 years old), and Sónia Melo (aged 36 years old). Susana was a mother to her teenage son, and she was very experienced in her field of work. Paulo was considered as an exemplary operational and a great human being. Sónia Melo was called the sweetest person by her friends who miss her. Sónia had also planned her wedding for the next year. She was excited about her wedding, and she told all her colleagues about it.

All three firefighters were buried in the cemetery which is located near the Vila de Nova de Oliveirinha fire station. These brave firefighters used to work in this fire station. The President of the firefighter’s association, Vítor Melo stated:

It is always the best people who die young.

Firefighters’ Funeral Attended By Bishop

The funeral of the firefighters who lost their lives was attended by many leaders and other figures. The Bishop of Coimbra, Virgílio do Nascimento Antunes was one of the participants who attended the funeral ceremony. Some of the other notable figures like the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, Rui Valério were also present at the funeral. Some officials from the government also attended the funeral like the ministers, MPs, GNR’s top officials, the President of the Republic, and the Prime Minister as well.

Many officials from the Government are still shocked by the funeral. Some are exhausted from working all the week due to fires in the region. The fire is still spreading day by day with much intensity. The Government of Portugal is still working hard to tackle this battle against the fire. Northern and Central areas are now under control after days of hard work. The work is still in process to further reduce the intensity of the heat in the area.

The cemetery was full of people, and everyone wanted to attend the funeral of the heroes of Portugal. The funeral space was soon filled with people. They had to remove a large screen so more people could be accommodated inside the area. The mayor of the area, Ricardo Cruz has announced that he will provide awards of merits for the ones who have fallen in the line of service. This year, the fire has claimed the lives of seven people, and more than 160 are injured. There had been no death from fire in many years but now this toll has been up to 7. A total of 135,000 hectares are also burned due to the aftermath of this forest fire. Many people have lost their jobs, businesses, and crops. The ultimate price that Portugal has paid for the recent forest fire is the death of the three courageous firefighters.
