Mayor of Lagos has confirmed that the Christmas Lighting wire was the cause of shock for the five-year-old.  The lighting was installed in Jardim da Constitution where a boy got shocked by electric wiring.

Child Shocked From Electric Wiring

A five-year-old boy was shocked by an electric wire that was installed in Lagos. This incident occurred on Saturday when the boy saw a live wire lying on the grass. He was later assisted by some locals and one member of a firefighter. This brave firefighter was luckily available in the area and attended to the boy. Mayor of Lagos, Hugo Pereira stated:

It was found that the reason for the shock was an electrical wire that was stripped, lying next to the grass, but which was repaired immediately. [The child] did not suffer serious injuries but was taken to the hospital as a precaution and for surveillance and was discharged on Sunday morning.

The city hall was in constant contact with the child and his family regarding the health of the boy. The good news is that the boy was totally safe after the incident. He was taken to the hospital immediately just as a precaution. The child was taken to the Faro Hospital by ambulance. The pediatric A&E unit at the Portimão Hospital was closed due to a lack of pediatricians. Hugo Pereira said:

We [city hall services] have always been in contact with the family and monitoring the child. It was an incident that, fortunately, was nothing more than a big scare. [The circuit breaker] should have tripped, that is, cut the electrical current, which did not happen.

The child has completely recovered from the incident and is fully stable. He was kept under observation for 2 days just as a precautionary measure. The child was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and was released after proper care on Monday. The Mayor of Lagos has ensured that the municipal council has addressed the issue completely. He informed that the shock was due to an electrical discharge when the child touched the Christmas lights.

Wiring Installation Company Questioned

According to the Mayor of Lagos, the company responsible for the installation and wiring was contacted after the incident. The mayor requested a thorough investigation and complete inspection for the reason for this electrocution incident. In addition to this, Hugo ordered the inspection of all the wiring in the city. Recently, the city has installed a lot of wiring because of Christmas lighting.

Hugo Pereira has instructed the installation company to check all the Christmas lighting in the city. He also informed that some people took pictures and videos of the incident and spread misinformation on social media platforms. This misinformation stated that the five-year-old child had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest which is entirely wrong. The mayor of the municipality within the Faro district stated:

Fortunately, the case did not have serious consequences for the child’s health, contrary to what ended up being reported. [The installation company will] carry out a thorough inspection of all Christmas lights installed in the city, in order to assess their safety conditions.
