Officials will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Porto Marathon this Sunday. A new route has been selected as part of the celebration. This will mark a historic moment for the marathon that will take place in Porto.
New Route For 20th Anniversary Of Porto Marathon
The marathon will be organized by Runporto. This organization is responsible for the management of the entire race. This year will be the 20th anniversary of the Marathon. The organizers have planned to do something special for the 20th anniversary. The General Director of the Runporto organization, Jorge Teixeira, expressed his excitement about the event. He stated:
I am very excited, especially with the good weather, which will make it a point to celebrate 20 years with us. The expectation is that we will continue trying to break records, not only for the race but for participation. We currently have around 7,000 registered for the marathon alone.

Jorge Texeira was present at the 20th edition of the Porto Marathon where he spoke with the media. He announced that the 2022 route has returned for this year’s marathon. Jorge released this information at Alfândega do Porto where he announced the replacement of the route from Vila Nova de Gaia to Leça da Palmeira. This new route will challenge the runners to cross the Douro River through D. Luís I Bridge.
New Routes Changes Due To Construction
The route has been changed due to some ongoing construction work. The General Director informed us that the path through the D. Luís I Bridge cannot be used for a further 2 years. A new route has been planned according to this inconvenience. Jorge has taken care of every aspect for the smooth operation of this year’s marathon. He stated:
The reason is the construction of the D. Antônia Ferreira bridge. The works are starting now and for at least two years, we will not be able to cross to that side. The route doesn’t lose beauty, because we have many kilometers to cover in Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira and it will get even faster. The conditions are in place to have a great event.
